C3R is a five-year career and college readiness initiative for Kentucky students, which begins in the 8th grade and is integrated in the schools' curriculum. The C3R initiative is made possible through an Investing in Innovation (i-3) grant awarded to the Kentucky Valley Educational Cooperative from the United States Department of Education Office of Innovation and Improvement. Activities initiated through the i-3 grant enable our school communities to provide innovated services addressing enhanced STEM education for students. These services will increase college access and success for ALL students. KVEC has partnered with the Green River Regional Educational Cooperative (GRREC) and WIN, Inc to integrate WIN Learning Courseware. Rand Corporation will conduct a comprehensive evaluation to assess the impact on student achievement, graduation rates and access to and success in college for students across the KVEC service area in eastern Kentucky and students across the GRREC service area in western Kentucky.
The C3R (College and Career Readiness) project serves 33 Local Education Agencies, 112 schools and 42,470 students in grades 8 - 12.
According to the Center for Education and the Workforce, in the next 7-10 years, more than half of the jobs in Kentucky and more than 60% of jobs nationwide will require post-secondary education (either a 2 year or 4 year degree). Most remaining jobs will require at least some training after high school.
Kentucky's current statewide college/career readiness rate is 38%.
All Kentucky school districts have pledged to increase the college/career readiness of their high school students by 50% by 2015.
